Welcome to My Blog

Thanks for visiting, and if you have stumbled across this site by accident, let me introduce myself. I am Gordon McKernan, a practicing injury attorney in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and I have designed this site to focus more on personal stories about me, my family, my firm, friends and my faith.

I am a Baton Rouge native and have a great wife, four wonderful kids, an extended loving family and a gracious God. I am truly blessed.

It was with mixed emotions that I agreed to go public with this site, as I think it is presumptuous to assume that anyone would be interested in my personal blogs. After several friends and clients encouraged me to start it, I decided to enter the blogosphere. I hope you find it entertaining and informative.

Again, thanks for stopping by and feel free to leave a comment or advice.

Fun and Frugal Ideas for Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a time to reflect on all of the sacrifices members of our armed forces have made for our freedom. Kicking off the summer season, we usually spend this time reconnecting with family members and friends. While some families will use the time off to travel, many are searching for low-cost activities that won’t break the bank to enjoy the three day weekend.

Prom Safety | Gordon McKernan Injury Attorneys

It’s that time of year again … glitzy shoes, gowns, corsages, limo rentals, and, unfortunately, drunk driving accidents. While teens are busy putting the finishing touches on their evening wear, parents are anxiously pacing the floor in anticipation of their teens returning home safely from prom night.

As parents, you can empower your teens to make the right decisions. Safety experts say that just talking to your teens about drinking and driving isn’t enough.

We Must Keep Running ~ After Boston Marathon Bombings

As we are all reflecting upon the tragic events of the recent Boston Marathon bombings, I am thinking about my own family as well since I am an avid runner and frequently participate in marathons and other various running events. Unfortunately, in these uncertain times, it’s not so hard to fathom that a tragedy like this could have happened just as easily at other marathons I have completed in the past. For a moment I did consider if I should continue to participate in future marathons, given the obvious safety concerns that have been brought to light since the bombings.

New Attorney Christina Valdez | Gordon McKernan Injury Attorneys

For one of our newest team members, Attorney Christina Valdes, the journey to becoming a lawyer actually started with her parents. “My family is from Cuba. They defected to the US after the revolution. They left Cuba with nothing but three outfits and two pairs of shoes. They came to this country for freedom and built a new life here. I have always been in awe of what they were able to overcome and of what they have built despite the language barrier.”

Meet Attorney Vergie Riley | Gordon McKernan Injury Attorneys

As one of our newest associates, Vergie Riley brings a wealth of valuable experience to our team including a law and medical background, an entrepreneurial spirit, and an attitude of perseverance. Vergie wanted to pursue law at a very young age, but says she “became sidetracked” at the age of 15 when she interned at a charity hospital. Her nurse mentor inspired her to go into the medical field.
